Bob Adams, Jr. of Racine, Ohio, made his second full season at PRP another championship season.
Adams, the track's alltime winningest Late Model driver, piloted his No. A55 to four wins in 17 starts last season.
The victories tell only part of the story as he finished out of the top 10 only three times all season. A remarkable accomplishment with the number of special events held last season, which brought the top Late Model drivers in the country to Portsmouth's 3/8 mile circuit.
Adams will enter the new season as the favorite to repeat in 1998.

Tim Tribby of Waverly, Ohio, captured his first Modified driver's championship last year.
Tribby, who had driven off and on in the past, made PRP his home track in 1997 and the move paid dividends.
He drove the KFC No. 5 to four victories in 16 starts.
Even when he did not win, Tribby was in the hunt in almost every race. He amassed eight other top five finishes, plus two additional top 10 finishes to wrap up the title.

McCann was the winingest driver with five victories in 15 races.

Bubby McCarty of Argillite, KY, captured the Bomber title in his first full season at PRP.
McCarty's trip to the title was the toughest among the four. He won without winning a race.
While he did not make it to Victory Lane, McCarty was remarkably consistent. With 40 or more cars trying to make the A Main each night, McCarty was not only able to battle through to the feature, but also able to stay out of trouble and come home with good finishes.
In 13 races, he had nine top five finishes. He also tacked on two top 10 palcements.
