Richmond, IN's Steve Casebolt held off the challengers and maneuvered his way through lapped traffic to take the 8th Annual Boone Coleman Memorial Gator 50 Saturday Night at Portsmouth Raceway Park.
Besides Casebolt, K.C. Burdette, Larry Holbrook, and Derek Richmond all claimed checkered flags in their respective divisions.
Saturday's Late Model Feature had a lot to offer, as the winner pocketed $5,000 and earned a provisional starting spot in this October's Dirt Track World Championship, which is valued at $2,000.
The large stakes brought out some big-time performances. Casebolt charged from seventh to claim the victory. Four-time Boone Coleman Memorial winner Jackie Boggs of Grayson, KY climbed from ninth to finish second. Parkersburg, WV's Colten Burdette moved up from eighth to second before eventually having to settle for third.
Wheelersburg's Josh Bocook started on the pole. The 2017 PRP champion would lead the first two laps before spinning in the middle of turns one and two. Luckily, the entire field managed to get by Bocook without any major collisions, however, both Doug Drown and Brandon Fouts sustained some body damage.
Drown, the outside polesitter, would finish in the top 10 but was never able to challenge for the lead. Fouts, who had won each of the past two Boone Coleman Memorials, would wind up falling out of the race and placing 17th.
After Bocook's mishap, the 2015 Gator 50 winner Rod Conley would inherit the lead. The Wheelersburg racer would keep his Rocket Chassis at the front of the field until lap 12 when Casebolt went by. Casebolt, a former Dream and Fred Dillow Memorial winner, would lead the remainder of the 50-lapper, but not without a catch-your-breath moment.
Casebolt struggled for nearly 10 circuits to clear Audie Swartz, who was the last car on the lead lap. Swartz protected the inside line, and Casebolt worked vigorously time and time again to clear him. The battle that raged between Casebolt and Swartz enabled Coleton Burdette to catch up, and with eight laps to go the trio of Casebolt, Swartz, and Burdette found themselves three-wide.
Casebolt finally got to the inside of Swartz with Burdette up on the rim. Casebolt would eventually clear the other two and hold on for the victory.
With two laps to go, Boggs would pass Burdette to take over the runner-up spot. Finishing behind Casebolt, Boggs, and Burdette were Rod Conley and fast-qualifier Shannon Thornsberry. R.J. Conley, Doug Drown, Delmas Conley, Kevin Wagner, and Ron Hinds II would round out the top 10.

Parkersburg, WV's K.C. Burdette led the Modified A-Main from flag to flag. The 2018 Modified Dirt Track World Championship winner was the class of the field. Brian Skaggs, Seth Daniels, Adam Stricker, and Dynamic Shock Service Fast Qualifier Austin Francis completed the top five. The rest of the top 10 was comprised of Davey Warnock, Mark Dickson, Matt Altiers, Craig Christian, and Ervin Vance.
The Limited Late Models presented a flurry of excitement in their heats and feature. Newark's Larry Holbrook took the win in the A-Main holding off stiff competition in the likes of John Melvin, Billy "The Rosemount Rocket" Staker, Evyian Terry, and Cameron Logan. That group finished first through fifth respectively.
Defending track champ Matt Melvin provided fans with plenty of entertainment, as he sliced and diced with his father, John, up at the front of the field before falling out of the race with four laps remaining.
Making up the rest of the top 10 were Kevin Terry, Charlie Mullett, Greg Thompson, Raymond Alley, and Matt Melvin.
Stout's Derek Richmond took the win in the Sport Mods. He passed Brennan Bobst for the lead with nine laps remaining.
For Richmond, it was his second victory of the season. Making up the remainder of the top 10 behind Richmond and Bobst were Cody Gifford, Derek Spencer, Jason Spillman, Branden Colley, Stevie Thornsberry, Jeremy Brady, Ray Lunsford, and Danny Hamilton Jr.
Portsmouth Raceway Park will be back in action this Saturday with a full program featuring Giovanni's Pizza Late Models, R.W. Rental & Supplies Modifieds, O'Reilly Auto Parts Limited Lates, and EMC2 Party Rentals & Inflatables/The Jump Zone Sport Mods. It will be Kids Night. All children ages 12 and under will receive free general admission tickets.
The highlighted event of the evening this coming Saturday will be the Annual Todd Galloway Memorial, formerly The Limited Late Model Extravaganza, presented by Premier Precast Products. For more details, log on to www.portsraceway.com.
